What should a California hotel check before buying management software?
A California hotel should ask its city or county what transient occupancy tax it owes. California does not publish one statewide hotel-room rate the way some states do. Cities and counties set and collect transient occupancy taxes on short hotel stays. The CDTFA page is the right starting point for statewide sales and use tax, and the wrong place to copy a room tax. Your city finance office publishes the occupancy tax.
